HOW TO PROTECT YOUR WELLBEING WHEN PLANNING A WEDDING
Taking on planning and designing your own wedding can be stressful and isolating. You might have found hosting a large Christmas gathering stressful or you might never have organised anything for more than 10 people outside your own home - that’s the norm!
I hear so many anecdotes from couples - (a lot of brides tbh) that they believed they had to do everything themselves for their wedding and by the time it came to the day itself they were knackered, stressed and part of them just wanted it to be done.
Here are 5 ways you can protect your wedding when YOU are the wedding planner, designer and co-ordinator (more about affordable ways to help and outsource a bit more throughout the post too).
1 - Don’t spend all your free time between now and your wedding doing wedmin.
Or when you DO do it, make it fun. This is such a lovely time for you and your other half, you can make wedding planning fun and exciting. Do your table planning sessions in the pub and chat about who you think would have get on like a dream come true. Put dates in the diary where you have a No Wedmin rule and just chat about other stuff and what else is going on in each other’s lives. There can be a lot of moving parts and decisions to make when you’re planning your own wedding (check out how to outsource all the creative bits by hitting the button)
2 - Maintain perspective.
You might get so bogged down in the little details; creating 100 handcrafted nameplaces that took you a week - that you lose sight of the event as a whole. Get your booze, music and food in place and know that you’ve got the backbone of your wedding sorted and can approach all the other lovely details with a more relaxed mindset.
3 - LIST IT OUT .
Make a list of everything you REALLY NEED or WANT and EDIT it. Do you really need wedding favours, handmade nameplaces or bespoke table names that will need a lot of making time and most likely end up in landfill? Listing out the details that really matter (to your heart OR your head!) can help focus your mind and stop you losing your mind on Pinterest. It might also help you see where you can outsource or hire to keep things simple (and more eco-friendly!)

4 - Set a budget early on.
This can ebb and flow a bit as you go - you might have a month where you earn a bit more or decide to Airbnb your flat to raise funds (we managed to raise £8k for our wedding this way!) or you might shave a bit more off your savings - but having a rough budget to stick to can work wonders for making decisions and getting things decided - e.g. you rule out the 15k venue immediately and start looking at ones under 9k in your area.
5 - Get someone else to design it for you.
The creative part of a wedding; the decor, the styling, how the room and the tables look, any visual or aesthetic touches are the elements that need the most skill and can take the most time. This is the one place I would pay for an outside eye.
It’s what will form and effect the backdrop of all your wedding photos but also all your loved ones memories!
This is where I come in. From troubleshooting your venue to set up, to providing you with a comprehensive bespoke deign plan, there is an affordable package for you that means you can keep your sh*t together AND create a gorgeous, modern, personality-filled wedding that people will be talking about for years to come.
Calling all London Wedding Couples!
The best thing to do if you’re overwhelmed or struggling to see how you’re going to make your chosen wedding venue come together on your wedding day (and look bloody fantastic) is to book in a discovery call.
They’re 15 minutes on Zoom, bookable immediately on Calendly. It’s great if you submit one thing in advance you’d like to chat about - maybe one thing you’re struggling with, or need a bit of design help with.
I’ll ask some questions about your day, venue, set up and what you’re after and by the end of the call should be able to suggest which package might be best for you.
To give you an idea of prices, support packages start at £150 for my Wedding Quickie SOS, The Signature Design My Wedding Package is £395 and Full Styling starts at £2000 for simple small venue set-ups in South East London.
